Green Tea: Myths & Reality

 Green Tea: Myths & Reality

Green tea is a popular beverage that has several benefits. Many associate teas with excellent health and wellness. But other green tea lovers do not base their views on facts and do not know any important facts about it. Thus, some misunderstandings have been created.

1. Green tea is decaffeinated

Contrary to many people's beliefs, green tea contains caffeine. The exact percentage is determined by the amount of tea and how long the leaves are dried. Green tea also contains 15-40 mg of caffeine in it. Excessive consumption can cause insomnia, dizziness, and palpitations.

2. Green tea helps people lose weight

Studies done on green tea are valid. However, the tests focus on a specific type of tea. Sometimes they fail to consider other species as a form of analysis. For example, European scientists have found that black tea has the same effects as green tea and helps people lose weight. Asian researchers fail to mention this in their research.

3. Green and black tea come from different plants

This is not true, despite what most people believe.  This belief is similar to that of the olive since the green and black olives come from the same tree! When ripe, the green olives turn black. So when it comes to tea, the color of the leaves is determined by how they process it.

4. Green tea  contains less caffeine than black tea

You should not judge the caffeine levels by the color of the tea. The younger leaves have more caffeine. For example, Japanese green tea "Gyokuro" has more caffeine than regular green tea.

5. Green tea makes you healthy

Green tea is not the magic fairy. Although green tea speeds up metabolism, it does not solve various other problems associated with being overweight. One cannot drink just one cup of green tea after eating 4,000 calories and think that one will be able to lose weight and lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

6. Pregnant women should not drink green tea

Yes, pregnant women can drink green tea. Since green tea contains caffeine, pregnant women are advised to drink only 200 mg of caffeine a day in total. It can be beneficial for pregnant women to drink a cup of green tea every day, as it has many antioxidants, which prevent the destruction of cells in the body.

7. Green tea prevents various forms of cancer

The results of these studies are unclear. Many green tea lovers believe that the antioxidant catechins in green tea kill cancer cells. Many scientists have done extensive research on the subject, however, they have failed to prove this and have limited their research. Many researchers, such as those in Japan, have only shown that those who drank green tea once a day died of non-cancer-related diseases.

8. Green tea is an Asian tea

In North America, green tea lovers have associated tea with China, Japan, and other Asian countries. Although the tea comes from China, other countries have added their own stigma. Moroccans also make green tea and serve it with milk. The Russians, and later the Israelis, made mixed green tea for their shopping. Green tea is popular everywhere and is not only associated with Asian traditions.
